Up close, in the particular way you learn to do when you have a house full of them and your job is to read what’s going on between them — who’s comfortable, who’s not, who’s about to make a decision. I run a small home boarding operation, which means I spend my days with dogs who are navigating new spaces, new smells, new social situations. It’s the best education in dog psychology there is.

What I’ve learned is that dogs are almost constantly communicating — with us, with each other, with their environment. They’re asking questions with their bodies, giving answers with their ears, negotiating whole conversations in the space of a few seconds. Most people miss it. Not because they don’t care, but because nobody ever showed them what to look for.

Delighted By Dogs started as a way to put that knowledge somewhere useful. The breed guessing game came first — because honestly, it’s the most fun way I know to talk about what makes each dog distinct. The psychology posts followed, because I kept finding myself wanting to explain what I was seeing. DoggyTV grew out of watching how much my boarding dogs settled when there was something interesting on screen. Parkway Pups has always been there, doing the thing that started all of it.

None of this is clinical. I’m not a certified behaviorist — I’m someone who has spent a lot of hours in the company of a lot of different dogs, paying close attention. That’s the perspective here: curious, warm, and genuinely interested in what these animals are doing and why.
